Mind the Source

Hi WBC Family...Andre here again!
So...how do you mind the source of your heart so that it stays clear of society's garbage? One thing I try to do is not watch TV after my wife Diane has gone to bed. I find that this keeps me from going places I need to avoid. Also, when I used to travel on business trips, I used to ask for the TV to be removed from my room. Both of these steps help me keep from putting our culture's pipeline of gunk into my soul. How about you? What can I learn from you as an imager of God?

funny- I wasn't at church for this sermon- maybe I should listen to it- but today's verse in my devotional was about guarding my heart and I happened to also check out the site!
I know that I am really struggling with this area and failing often. A speaker once said to say 'praise Jesus' every time you had a bad thought. Recently the phrase 'bringing every thought under the lordship of Christ' has been coming to mind too and the idea of submitting every inner thought to that lordship. It's hard, especially when culture is so explicit in its communication of what is important about image and sexuality and the church is so silent.

I agree that we need to talk more about this issue. It is SO EASY in this culture to be private. Everyone keeps to themselves. We need to help each other stay pure for the sake of Jesus. I like the idea of saying something that redirects my thoughts. Recently, God's Word in my heart has helped. God brought Titus 1:15 to my mind, "To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted." That helps me by reminding me that evil thoughts are not in sync with my calling as a holy one of God. Even still, I need a constant reminder and accountability to walk in purity consistently.

I think that getting rid of the TV is a good idea. I do enjoy watching some shows and I watch a lot of news. Anymore everything is really going down the drain. I could really see how it could cloud up someone's mind when watching TV. If you don't want to give it up I would really say that you should limit yourself.
