The question I would throw out there is how to handle Rich's first sermon example - a Saul and David type relationship. These 'dysfunctional' relationships do exist in the body of Christ. Is it best to confront the person? Forgive them? Ignore it? Try to make peace? And if nothing works, what then? Thanks for the opportunity to blog, and thanks for feedback. Janine

My opinion is there is a process of deciding what to do in these relationships. I think we will see in the David and Saul relationship that David gives Saul opportunities to change and create a 'safe place' for their relationship, but eventually after multiple tries at that he stays away, refuses to have contact with Saul although he does it is such a way to show respect to his King. Anyone else have some ideas?

It seems that throughout the Bible, God is a God of commitment - commitment to him and commitment to marriage. And in life, commitment is often praised, included in vocational settings - being committed to a job. So, it would seem that commitment to friends and friendship is also virtuous and important. I don't see why God would limit his value of commitment to simply himself and to marriage - I think it is much more expansive than that.
